Natural Health, Issue #008 -- Home Thyroid Test August 23, 2011 |
Hello, Test Your Thyroid at HomeOur faced paced lifestyles often overtax our thyroid gland. Stress, combined with a diet that includes coffee, sugar and processed foods wear out our glands. Symptoms of thyroid imbalance:
Thyroid TestThe basal body temperature test indicates how much energy the body is using while resting. Basal metabolism is determined mostly by the thyroid and the adrenals.1. Use an ordinary thermometer. 2. Shake down the thermometer the night before and keep it on your bedside table. 3. Before getting up place the thermometer under your armpit and keep it there for 10 minutes. 4. Women should take their temperature any time after the second day of their period and before ovulation, (approximately day 14.) 5. Record your temperature for 5 days, then calculate the average. If the average is less than 97.8 Fahrenheit, you could have low thyroid function and it would be best to have it tested by a doctor. However a blood test will not always reveal a thyroid that is borderline, use your own judgment and consult a Naturopath. According to Louise Hay, on an emotional side, thyroid problems indicate feelings of, "I never get to do what I want to do, when is it going to be my turn?" It is interesting to note that most people who develop hypothyroid (low thyroid function) do so immediately following an emotional shock, often the loss of a loved one. There are supplements that can boost your thyroid naturally. Even if part of the thyroid has been surgically removed it can be completely regenerated and Synthroid is not longer needed.
