Your type has large energy reserves. Not really a “morning type,” but some will insist you are full of energy in the morning. You’re often up and ready to get the kids off to school and the day on the road.

Other times, you can be slow to start because you’ve stayed up too late, or because you ate a large meal before bed. Given the chance on weekends, you may sleep in a little later.

During the day, you may feel tired and then — woops — you get your second wind and off you go again.

Your energy is usually very stable all day long, with more energy at night than in the morning. You’re similar to an old-fashioned car or diesel truck (sorry, not too flattering but true!) — hard to get going, but once you do, it’s hard to stop you.

Some Athena Types may have an afternoon slump if their liver is congested or they’ve had a heavy lunch.

The Athena Type is warm, jovial, and sociable. You help everyone out. You’re appreciated by all.

You may seem to handle stress well, although you tend to internalize it. On the outside you’re calm, but underneath the surface there’s often a lot brewing.

You’re hardworking, practical, and determined. At work, you may be the first to arrive and the last to leave. You want to win, and you believe you can overcome obstacles, arguments, or competition.

But you can also be stubborn — some Athena Types will admit to this, unless they’re too stubborn to admit it! You like stability and don’t always adapt easily to sudden changes.

Some Athenas are easy-going, but others can be dominating, authoritarian, and impulsive. Anger can be an issue, especially if the liver is overworked with fatty foods, red meat, or alcohol.

Your emotions often make you react. If you’re hungry, it’s better not to talk to you until after you’ve eaten. You give short answers rather than long ones. You don’t like too many “musts” or “shoulds.”

Most of my Athena Type clients will exclaim "I Love Food!" And it's true! You enjoy salty, fatty foods, sometimes sweet, often both. You like:

  • Sweet or salty foods

  • Fatty foods or fried foods

  • Chips

  • Popcorn

  • Rich sauces

  • Pastries

  • Chocolate

  • Cheese

  • If you have toast it is almost always with butter, never plain you tend to love butter

  • Red meat and the fat on meat or cold cuts

  • Alcohol or red wine

  • Foods that are marinated in vinegar with salt

Many lean more towards the salty which in excess can to leave you bloated. If you do crave sweet foods it would be more along the line of the fatty, creamy foods, sugar pie, pastries, caramel sauce and the like. You tend to like red meat, fatty foods and alcohol (many enjoy wine). When eating or drinking alcohol, this tends to give you a feeling of strength.

Your type tends to over eat and you a hard time stopping eating once you get going. Portion control can be a real challenge, especially at dinner. You tend towards excess, even if you feel full you will keep on eating. You feel tired when you have eaten too much and your liver is toiling.

You often don’t drink enough water, or eat enough fruits and vegetables. Cravings usually hit around 4 PM or late evening when your energy wanes.

Balancing your meals, eating the right foods, and hydrating properly helps stop the cycle of overeating and cravings — leading to long-term natural weight loss.

Because of your strong appetite and love of rich foods, the weak points for the Athena Body Type are the liver and heart. You may face:

  • High blood pressure

  • High cholesterol

  • Cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke)

  • Gallbladder stones

  • Fatigue, poor digestion, or liver congestion

  • Risk of diabetes, alcoholism, or gout

When the liver is congested, you feel tired and digestion suffers.

Physical Traits of the Athena Body Type

An Athena Type is big boned. Often shorter in height. Upper body is dominant.

Think Oprah: apple-shaped body with a large chest. Waist and thighs not easily distinguished. Strong, muscular arms and legs, small buttocks, square frame. When you gain weight it tends to be more in the upper body, abdomen, and especially the upper abdomen, right under the chest, the stomach, rather than the lower belly. You also tend to accumulate fat on the back.

You build muscle easily when you work out. You often run hot, flush red with exertion, and give off a lot of heat. Some have oily skin that gives a youthful appearance.
